The boats owners ask for run from the Cal 20 and Cal 25 (still raced one-design on both coasts) through the 27, 28, 29, 2-27, 2-30, 33, 34, 35, 36, and 39, up to the Cal 40 and Cal 48. If you sail a Cal 25 you should tell us whether it is the original or a later series, since the deck and rig details differ.

Cals were drawn by C. William Lapworth and built by Jensen Marine in Costa Mesa, and the Cal 40 changed ocean racing when it took the 1965 Transpac and kept winning afterward. Fifty years on, these are boats people restore rather than replace. A shirt showing the fin keel, spade rudder, and low freeboard of the actual model says more to another Cal owner than any stock graphic.
